Simple Za’atar Toast (Modern Style)

Prep: 5 minutes Cook: 5 minutes Serves: 2

🌿 Short Story

In Palestine, mornings begin with olive oil and za’atar — a ritual of simplicity and gratitude.
This modern take brings that tradition to any kitchen: crisp toast brushed with Darna Olive Oil and topped with Darna Za’atar, served warm with labneh or avocado.
It’s quick, nourishing, and captures the same flavor of the village — in five minutes flat.

🍋 Ingredients

Classic Version

  • 2 slices of rustic or sourdough bread

  • 2 Tbsp Darna Olive Oil

  • 1 Tbsp Darna Za’atar

Modern Toppings (Optional)

  • Sliced avocado

  • Labneh or Greek yogurt

  • Cherry tomatoes, halved

  • Cucumber slices

  • Lemon zest or chili flakes

  • Fresh mint or arugula leaves

🥣 Directions

1️⃣ Mix the Za’atar Paste

  1. In a small bowl, combine Darna Za’atar and Darna Olive Oil.

  2. Stir until the za’atar is fully coated and glossy — the consistency should be spreadable.

2️⃣ Toast the Bread

  1. Toast or lightly grill your bread until golden and crisp on the edges.

  2. Place slices on a plate or wooden board.

3️⃣ Assemble

  1. Spread the za’atar-olive oil paste evenly over the toast while it’s still warm.

  2. Optional: top with labneh, avocado, or fresh vegetables.

  3. Drizzle a touch more Darna Olive Oil on top and serve immediately.

🌸 Village Tips

  • For a perfect ratio, mix 1 part za’atar : 1.5 parts olive oil.

  • Use high-quality bread — the toast should be sturdy enough to hold the oil.

  • Sprinkle a pinch of Darna Sumac for brightness or chili flakes for heat.

  • Serve it with a cup of Darna Sage Tea for a true Palestinian breakfast.

🍽️ Variations

  • Avocado Toast: Mash avocado, spread over za’atar toast, top with lemon zest and mint.

  • Labneh Toast: Spread labneh first, drizzle za’atar oil on top — creamy and rich.

  • Feta & Tomato: Add crumbled feta and cherry tomatoes for a Mediterranean twist.
