Wadi Fukin: A Village Nestled in Sculpted Hills
Wadi Fukin is a tiny but magnificent Palestinian agricultural village, home to around 1,300 souls who dwell between rolling hills of olive trees, fig trees, and stone terraces our grandparents built with bare hands. We’ve carved our name in the history books by being the only Palestinian village to claim our right of return after being violently displaced in the 1948 nakba. A Legacy of Soil, Sunlight, and Survival
Farming here is not just work—it is life. It is physical, emotional, and spiritual nourishment. It is the sunrise over the valley, the smell of wild sage after the rain, the joyful cries of children playing in the olive groves while elders prune vines and carefully tend to each herb. Almost every family in the village has their very own patch of land, passed down generation after generation, and it is a treasured source of sustenance.
Farming Against Apartheid
But our precious land, our dear livelihood, is shrinking under the shadow of slow genocide. Massive illegal Zionist settlements and aggressive army presence continues to expand, swallowing hills that once fed families, building “security” fences that block farmers from their own land, setting up random checkpoints to intimidate residents, confiscating irrigation sources piece by piece. Despite these challenges, the farmers of Wadi Fukin and surrounding villages continue to plant, harvest, and tend to their land with the steadfast Palestinian hope that it will never die.
Water as Lifeline
The village is blessed with nine natural springs, the lifeline of every farm here. Water is precious. Each farmer is given specific hours during the week to irrigate, a carefully respected schedule that keeps peace and fairness in the village. The farmers then collect the extra water into small stone pools to use later, ensuring not a drop goes to waste.
